DFDS update website after consumers spot booking error

Ferry firm DFDS has updated its booking website after we alerted them to an error.

We reported last month that a couple of consumers had contacted us to warn Islanders to pay close attention when booking a day trip ticket over to France.

DFDS, which took over from Condor earlier this year, is currently offering day trips to St Malo for £29 return.

However, the Islanders who contacted us had found that when you visit the DFDS website, there were two ways you could book day trips – and depending which way you did it, they would either cost you £29, or a significantly higher price, in Euros, of over £100.

A DFDS spokesperson said told us: “DFDS is aware of the confusion that has arisen in booking day trips from Jersey to St Malo and that a price discrepancy can occur if you do not select the ‘Day Trip’ option. To minimise this confusion, we have now incorporated a ‘Day Trip’ button on our website homepage to guide customers to the most advantageous prices. In addition, DFDS is working to upgrade its website and booking system to improve the overall user journey.

“In order to offer travellers the best value and service for their money, the day trip price is available to all those travelling within a 24-hour period, even if staying overnight in St Malo. To qualify, customers must travel and return to the island within the 24-hour period. Our customer service team remains at hand to address any concerns from customers and will refund any booking difference where the day trip rate was not applied. We are committed to improving our services and welcome all feedback.”
