There’s bad news if you’re a Netflix subscriber – the streaming platform has increased the cost of its monthly subscriptions for UK customers.
It’s the first time Netflix has increased its UK prices since October 2023 and, for the first time, the most affordable subscription, which includes ad breaks, will also be rising.
And what makes things worse is that we know they charge VAT as part of those fees – something which should not be applied in the Channel Islands. Unfortunately, our attempts to convince them otherwise go unanswered, but that won’t stop us trying.
The monthly increases come despite the fact that Netflix recently announced it had had a massive 18.9 million new subscribers in the last three months of 2024, bringing its total number of subscribers to over 300 million worldwide.
UK subscribers with the most affordable ad-free subscription – the ‘Standard’ plan – have been the worst hit, with a £2 increase, while the other two plans are going up by £1 a month.
If you’re a new subscriber signing up today, you’ll have to pay the new prices immediately. However, existing Netflix subscribers won’t see the new monthly price until your next billing cycle comes around.
Netflix plans will be rising as follows:
- Standard with Ads – going up by £1 a month, from £4.99 to £5.99.
- Standard – going up by £2 per month from £10.99 to £12.99.
- Premium – going up by £1 a month from £17.99 per month to £18.99
