JT's 3G network to be switched off

Telecoms company JT have let us know that they will be following the UK and the rest of the world and beginning their work to switch off their 3G service.

The move was announced last year and the switch off will be a phased approach starting in May 2025.

What does this mean for you?

  • For most JT mobile phone users, your phone will continue to work without any impact.

  • If you have an older phone that uses 3G then you will still be able to use the phone to text and make calls, but not to use the internet for browsing or to use WhatApp or social media apps.
  • If you are using 3G and want to use the internet, check whether your telephone is compatible for 4G

How to check compatibility for 4G

Android phones

  • Go to settings
  • Mobile Networks
  • Network Mode
  • Here you will see if your phone has the option of selecting a 4G/LTE mode. If the mode is listed, your phone is 4G enabled.

iPhones

  • Go to settings
  • General
  • Cellular
  • If you see Enable 4G LTE option, your phone is 4G compatible. You can select this option to enable 4G.
