Help give a voice to young consumers in Jersey

We’re looking for new Youth Representatives to join our Council for the next academic year, as our previous representatives prepare to leave the Island to attend university.

This rewarding voluntary role is open to young people in Jersey aged between 18 and 21 years old, who are interested in representing the views and interests of younger consumers.

Our Youth Representatives play an important role in helping the Council understand the issues that matter to young people and contribute to discussions on a range of consumer topics affecting Islanders.

The role also provides valuable experience that can enhance a CV, university application, or personal statement. Representatives will gain insight into consumer affairs, public engagement and the work of an independent body that advocates for consumers in Jersey.

What's involved?

We understand that Sixth Form students already have busy academic and personal commitments, so the time commitment is intentionally light.

The Council meets four or five times each year, usually for around two hours on a designated evening. Dates are arranged well in advance, allowing members plenty of notice.

In addition to attending meetings, Youth Representatives may choose to contribute to occasional one-off projects, surveys or campaigns. Previous activities have included:

Comparing the cost of products in Jersey
Assisting with social media content
Contributing articles for publication online or in the Jersey Evening Post
Sharing their views on issues affecting young consumers

Who are we looking for?

We are keen to hear from young people who have an interest in consumer affairs and the issues that affect consumers in Jersey.

No previous experience is required, just enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to share ideas and opinions.

What our previous Youth Representatives said about the role

"We are extremely grateful for your kindness and the experience of being Youth Representatives.

“It was extremely eye-opening and empowering to be given a voice, especially having our writing published in the newspaper.

"We hope that you continue this position so that future students can enjoy the same opportunity and experience."

Are you interested?

We would be delighted to hear from any students who are interested in getting involved.

To find out more, or express an interest, please email contact@consumercouncil.je

We look forward to hearing from the next generation of consumer advocates and helping them to get their voices heard.
