About Us

Giving a voice to consumers in Jersey since 1995

The Jersey Consumer Council works on behalf of all consumers in the Island, by:

  • Researching and highlighting issues that affect shoppers and service users.
  • Comparing the prices of goods and services in Jersey.
  • Giving Islanders the facts they need to make informed decisions.

As the consumers’ champion, we investigate consumer problems, share clear and reliable information, and raise awareness of unfair practices.

Over the years, the Council has received thousands of consumer complaints and queries, about issues ranging from prices, delivery charges and high bills to poor customer service, consumer rights and the cost of living.

As ‘a voice for consumers’, our mission is to represent Islanders’ interests fairly, and to help them get the information that they need, or to resolve an ongoing situation.

Meet the team

The Jersey Consumer Council is made up of representatives of the general public, from a broad section of Island life, with varied working experiences and age range.

They meet regularly, give important feedback during Government and other consultation exercises and, most importantly, they collectively give a voice to consumers in Jersey.

The members are motivated to help others and are genuinely interested in consumer matters. On a fortnightly basis, Council Members carry out grocery price comparison surveys in all the Island’s supermarkets.

The Council is supported by two employees, an Executive Officer and an Officer, who manage all administrative Council work and meetings, represent the Council at various forums and community events, and update the Council’s website and social media accounts.

The Executive Officer is also responsible for managing the Council’s finances and spending, and ensuring that the Council’s governance is maintained and updated, while the Officer is responsible for supporting the consumers who contact the Council with queries and concerns.
