The Schengen Area and travel

If you are unsure about travelling in Europe now – or confused about what the Schengen Area is – then here is what you need to know.

Since Brexit, our requirements for entering the EU and Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein (known as the Schengen Area) have altered.

The Schengen Area of the European Union is a group of 29 European countries that have abolished their mutual borders, allowing for passport-free movement for residents of those countries. If you have a British/Jersey passport you will need to keep an eye on visa changes and passport rules when visiting the Schengen Area.

Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Lichenstein are not EU members, but they are members of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), so are part of the Schengen Area.
