Sheila Ponomarenko
Sheila Ponomarenko has been a Council Member since July 2018.
Sheila is a retired headteacher who was involved in education for all her working life.
She began her career in a multicultural secondary school in the East End of London. On moving back to her home county of Lancashire, she worked as an English teacher in a secondary school. She then taught English to recently arrived Asian children in Burnley.
On moving to Jersey in 1987, Sheila taught at JCG Prep. She finished her career as headteacher of St Clement’s Primary School.
Since retiring, Sheila has been involved in a number of voluntary roles at Citizen’s Advice, The Prison Monitoring Board, Jersey Heritage and Beresford Street Kitchen.
Sheila said that she very much enjoys her work with the Jersey Consumer Council, which she says gives her an insight into many different areas of Island life.
