Alex Watson

Alex Watson has been a Council Member since July 2024

Alex is a software developer and freelance journalist who was born in Edinburgh but has lived in Jersey since 1999, when he moved to the Island with his parents at the age of three.

He was educated at St John's Primary and De La Salle College, before graduating from the University of Portsmouth in 2017.

Alex returned to Jersey and worked as a journalist for Channel 103 and later ITV, covering all aspects of local news, from political scoops to potato-growing competitions.

He says he has always been a keen advocate of consumer stories and ‘news you can use’ - something which has become increasingly important due to the rising cost of living.

While working in the media, Alex led several technical projects, including new IT systems and websites, and even relocating a radio station to new premises while adhering to restrictions in place during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In January 2024, he stepped back from day-to-day news to start a new role at Aiir – a software development company specialising in the media industry, creating products like a web content management system, mobile apps, Alexa skills, radio automation software and studio communications tools.
